Juergen Teller: Woo! 23 January 2013 - 17 March 2013

Juergen Teller: Woo!
23 January 2013 - 17 March 2013
Free entry

Considered one of the most important photographers of his generation, Juergen Teller is one of a few artists who has been able to operate successfully both in the art world and the world of commercial photography. This exhibition will provide a seamless journey through his landmark fashion and commercial photography from the 90s, presenting classic images of celebrities such as Lily Cole, Kurt Cobain and Vivienne Westwood, as well as more recent landscapes and family portraits.

Teller entered the London photography scene through the music industry taking photographs for record covers, it was Teller’s photograph of SinĂ©ad O’Connor for her single Nothing Compares 2 You that marked an important moment in his career. Teller’s photographs first appeared in fashion magazines in the late 80s, and included portraits of Kate Moss when she was just fifteen years old. Teller’s images could be described as the antithesis of conventional fashion photography seen perhaps most markedly in his campaigns for Marc Jacobs.

Picture and Words introduces a series from his controversial weekly column in the magazine of Die Zeit which often provoked outcry amongst readers, and the exhibition will feature many of the letters of complaint that the magazine received. Irene im Wald and Keys to the House are Teller’s most recent bodies of work, revealing the photographer’s more personal world in his hometown in Germany and family home in Suffolk.

Teller’s provocative interventions in celebrity portraiture subvert the conventional relationship of the artist and model. Whatever the setting, all his subjects collaborate in a way that allows for the most surprising poses and emotional intensity. Driven by a desire to tell a story in every picture he takes, Teller has shaped his own distinct and instantly recognisable style which combines humour, self-mockery and an emotional honesty.

A selection of Teller's books and tear sheets from his editorial and advertising work will be on show in the Fox Reading Room.

With thanks to the Juergen Teller Exhibitions Supporters Group: Lehmann Maupin, Shane Akeroyd, Derek & Christine Wilson, The Edwin Fox Foundation, and others who wish to remain anonymous.

ACF Presents The Coal Project

ACF presents
THE COAL
at Pitti Uomo

Someone once said that great minds think alike, and this is all too evident in the
debut project from ACF, combining talented artists, craftsmen and creatives with the
same vision to create an installation exclusively at the iconic Pitti Uomo in Florence.

Combining the elements of artisanal creative skills with classic tools to create unique
products, the coal project is all about showcasing your creativity through the use of
utilitarian techniques. It is about the ultimate balance of creative thinking and
traditional techniques of manufacture, not mass market commercial products. The
entire project was designed around a raw mineral theme and to reflect this all of the
items involved are in a stark black colour in a variation of materials.

The Coal project is the work of 7 innovators that have come together to create ‘Pack
Essential’ the ultimate basics for any creative that finds themselves living out of a
suitcase across different parts of the world for their work. The main element of this
project was to choose essential items that are needed for the sartorial traveler that
don’t weigh a huge amount and can come in handy no matter what scenario you find
yourself in.

The Pack consists of a Handmade Leather Bag, The Ultimate Black Shirt, An Italian
Handmade Hat, Hand Crafted Glasses from Japan, Fine Cotton Socks, Leather Soled
English Made Shoes and a curated photographic poetry book. All the items come
together to fit into the leather bag for anyone to pick up and go.

Having began conceptual ideas at Pitti Uomo in June and 6 months of development,
ACF, whose values are ‘Sartour, Alchemy & Progression’ will present their project in
January within the Alternative Exhibition area over the 4 day period. On location at
the exhibition are ACF founders and business partners Sam Lambert and Shaka
Maidoh who have worked to curate the installation with artisans from across the
world.

The collaboration partners include Super Duper Hats, Lotho Eyewear, Eton Shirts,
T-Michael and Kalaf Angelo who’s work will be displayed at the installation.

20 Years of Dazed & Confused Magazine @ Somerset House

Making It Up As We Go Along
4 Nov - 29 Jan, 10.00-18.00

Dazed & Confused has been a go-to reference for style and culture since its explosive launch in London in 1991 by Jefferson Hack and renowned photographer Rankin. Quickly developing into a notoriously creative platform for new artists, musicians, designers, and filmmakers, and being widely known for its irreverent attitude, Dazed & Confused represented a new wave in the British press, bringing together figures from an assortment of fields and eras to produce extraordinary interviews and original artwork exclusively for the magazine.

Curated by Jefferson Hack and Emma Reeves in collaboration with Somerset House, this multi-layered exhibition immortalises the magazine’s most infamous visual stories, featuring legendary photoshoots, iconic covers, controversial editorial content and artwork from influential photographers, designers, and artists.

Work featured includes ground-breaking photography by Rankin, Nick Knight, David Sims and Terry Richardson, specially commissioned projects by artists Jake & Dinos Chapman, Damien Hirst and Sam Taylor-Wood, cutting edge fashion pages by stylists Katie Grand, Katy England, Alister Mackie and Nicola Formichetti, and specially selected designs by fashion giants Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Gareth Pugh.

This exhibition coincides with an anniversary book published by Rizzoli.

Signed copies of  20 Years of Dazed & Confused Magazine - Making It Up As We Go Along available now in our Rizzoli Bookshop, signed by Jefferson Hack and Rankin.

Reality Is A Matter of Perspective - ACF Studio Exhibition

Central Saint Martins graduate Marcus Morrison-Pemberton creates art under the emotionally charged alter ego 'Dupelux'. The 'Reality is a matter of perspective' exhibition deals mainly with consumerism, engaging with specific issues like conspicuous consumption, virtual reality vs reality, branding, and identity to name but a few. Mixed media visuals from a refreshing perspective addressing engaging social and political issues also.

Marcus' artistic inspirational figures are Tobias Wong, Fredrich Hundertwasser, Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol. He also draws great inspiration form the works of French sociologist, philosopher and cultural theorist Jean Baudrillard as well as other key figures in the postmodernist movement.

Please check poster for details:

There will be drinks, please RSVP and bring a friend.

ELEPHANT DUNG! (CHRIS OFILI)

Last day of chris ofili's exhibition at Tate Britain was inspiring. It's great seeing like minds thinking great, or better still great artist drives one to work harder.
